Purchase of felling sites and roadside assortments

We buy standing-timber felling sites and roadside assortments from private forest owners across Northern Kurzeme, Southern Kurzeme and Zemgale. Felling-site valuation is free of charge.

We offer two types of transaction when buying a felling site:

• by the realised volume of timber;
• by valuation — a tree-by-tree survey.

Felling sites by realised volume

The contract is signed once the felling permit has been issued by the State Forest Service. Together with the owner we agree on the approximate total volume of the felling site, for which an advance payment is made.

When signing the contract, we agree with the owner on:

• the quantity of timber purchased in advance;
• the planned assortments and their prices;
• the location of the haul road and timber landing;
• the felling schedule;
• tidying the property after the felling.

Once all assortments have been sold, a settlement is drawn up according to the contract terms; the advance already paid is deducted and the final payment is made to the owner. The owner receives full information about the assortments produced and sold.

For thinning operations we use forest-friendly, small-scale machinery (Terri).

Felling sites by valuation (survey)

The contract is signed once the felling permit has been issued. The total volume of the felling site — needed to set the price — is determined by measuring each tree (a survey).

When signing the contract we agree on the total quantity of timber, the total payment, the location of the haul road and landing, the felling schedule and tidying the property afterwards. We also help with felling-site marking and survey services.

A note on taxes

When selling a felling site, the owner must account for tax. Under Latvian law, for private individuals the expenses related to forest regeneration (10%) are deducted before the tax is calculated, so the tax transferred to the state budget is 7.5% of the total payable amount.

Buying roadside assortments

We buy roundwood at the roadside across Northern Kurzeme, Southern Kurzeme and Zemgale. Together with the owner we assess the landing location and the assortments stacked there and offer a price. Once both parties agree, we take care of all transaction formalities.
